Catarats Faqs

What are Cataracts?

As we age, our natural eye lens becomes less flexible and cloudy, leading to a decline in vision. Surgery is the most effective treatment for cataracts. The procedure takes less than an hour and can significantly improve the clarity of your vision.

What are Some Symptoms of Cataracts?

Blurry vision is the most common symptom of cataracts. However, the symptoms can vary depending on the severity and location of the condition within the eye. You may also experience difficulty reading small print, driving, sensitivity to light, faded colors, and double vision.

How are Cataracts Diagnosed?

Many eye conditions have similar symptoms. To diagnose cataracts, our ophthalmologists will begin with a dilated eye exam. We will ask you about the symptoms that you are experiencing you’re your medical history. In order to determine an accurate diagnosis, we’ll also test your visual acuity and perform a retinal exam and a slit-lamp exam.

What is Cataract Surgery?

Cataract surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens with an artificial and intraocular one. We will numb the area around your eye and may give you medication to help you relax. You should also arrange for someone to transport you to and from our location for the surgery. It takes a few weeks to fully recover from the surgery, however, you can resume your normal activities within a few days. If both of your eyes need to be replaced, we will perform surgery on each eye during separate visits to allow your eyes to heal properly.

Is Cataract Surgery Safe?

Cataract surgery is a safe and simple surgery. However, there are some minor risks of infection and bleeding that we can easily manage at our office. We will schedule a follow-up exam shortly after your procedure to ensure your eyes are healing as they should.
